What Superclip does, where your clipboard history lives, and how to get it working on your machine.
General
Is Superclip free?
Yes. Superclip is free to download and use, with no trial, no subscription and no paid tier. It is also open source under the MIT licence, so you can read, modify and redistribute the code.
Which platforms does it support?
Windows, macOS and Linux. Windows ships as an installer or MSI, macOS as a DMG for both Apple Silicon and Intel, and Linux as a DEB, AppImage, RPM or tarball.
Do I need an account?
No. There is nothing to sign up for. Install the app and it works immediately.
Is it really open source?
Yes — the whole thing is under a thousand lines of code, published at github.com/anyscapelabs/superclip. You can verify every claim on this page yourself.
Privacy and data
Where is my clipboard history stored?
In a single JSON file inside your operating system's application data directory, on your own device. Nothing is uploaded, and there is no server involved.
Does Superclip send my data anywhere?
No. The app makes no network calls at all — no sync, no analytics, no crash reports, no update checks. It works fully offline.
How many items does it keep?
The most recent 100. Once the cap is reached, the oldest entries drop off automatically. Pinned clips stay put.
How do I clear my history?
Press Ctrl+X in the Superclip window to wipe everything, or delete individual clips. Uninstalling the app removes the history file too.
Does it capture passwords?
Superclip records what you copy, so anything you copy from a password manager will land in your history like any other text. Clear the history if that concerns you, and remember the file is unencrypted and local — treat it like any other file on your machine.
Using Superclip
How do I open my clipboard history?
Press Ctrl+Shift+V from any application. The window appears over whatever you were working in, with the search box focused.
How do I paste something?
Type to search, use the arrow keys to pick a clip, then press Enter. Superclip pastes into the app you came from.
Can I keep certain clips permanently?
Yes. Press Ctrl+P to pin a clip. Pinned items stay at the top and are never purged by the 100-item cap.
Does it handle images?
Yes. Images are captured and pasted with full support, alongside text.
Troubleshooting
The global shortcut does nothing.
Another application is probably holding Ctrl+Shift+V. Close the conflicting app, or check that Superclip is actually running — it lives in your system tray, not the taskbar.
Pasting into my terminal does not work.
Terminals handle paste differently and Superclip accounts for this automatically. If a specific terminal still misbehaves, please open an issue with the name and version.
Where did the window go?
Superclip starts in the system tray and stays there. Right-click the tray icon to open it or quit.
